Sault Symphony Orchestra

Klassical Kaleidoscope

The Sault Symphony Orchestra presents Klassical Kaleidoscope on Saturday, February 11 at the Kiwanis Community Theatre Centre. The evening celebrates the vibrant and colourful visions of the world’s most beloved composers and features solo performances by two of the Sault’s most talented youth artists, and boasts the largest Orchestra put together this season.

Leah Dominy, winner of the Symphony’s 2010 Young Artists’ Competition, will perform the complete Liszt Piano Concerto #2. Music has been a dominant part of Leah’s life – it enriches and inspires her. Her passion for the piano comes through in her performances where she brings a high level of energy to the stage, wowing appreciative audiences. She holds her Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) A.R.C.T. diploma in piano performance with a standing of first class honours. She began her musical studies at the age of 4 and started taking piano lessons at the age of 5. She has since studied with Glenn Flood, Dale Innes, and William Aide. At the age of 18, Leah’s success brought her to the United States. She is currently completing her Bachelors of Music in Piano Performance under the tutelage of Prof. Alexander Toradze at the world renowned Toradze Piano Studio of Indiana University.

The Orchestra brought together for this event is comprised of over 40 talented musicians from Sault Ste. Marie, across the Upper Peninsula and Northern Ontario. In addition to Leah, the talented young Victoria Jones will also perform as a guest soloist on Max Bruch’s Violion Concerto No. 1 (finale).

The full concert repertoire for Klassical Kaleidoscope includes: Mozart's Symphony No. 35 - first movement; Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 4 - second movement; Liszt's Piano Concerto #2 (complete); Borodin's Polovetsian Dance; Bruch's Violin Concerto #1 - first movement; Brahms' 4th Symphony - third movement; and Tchaikovsky's 4th Symphony - fourth movement/finale.
